Dan Ireland, your course trainer, is a Psychotherapist, Emotional Intelligence Facilitator, Compassion & Mindfulness Accredited Teacher and Tibetan Buddhist.

He has a wealth of experience working with people particularly with trauma and PTSD.

He is also a Dementia Support Specialist for Dementia Australia delivering courses to carers on grief, loss and mental health strategies.

The course is not therapy, it is strategies and techniques to empower you to better manage this emotional, irregular body and mind due to the impact of trauma or loss/grief.

Mindfulness, Movement  & Breathwork Therapy Course – 10 weeks

At a moment when the impacts of trauma are widespread, there’s an urgent need for mindfulness practitioners who can recognize trauma, respond effectively, and support trauma recovery. Mindfulness, Movement  & Breathwork Therapy

Mindfulness and Breathwork can be invaluable for trauma survivors. It can increase body awareness, one’s capacity for attention, and emotional regulation—all essential assets for trauma recovery.Mindfulness, Movement  & Breathwork Therapy

The skills you will learn over the 10 weeks together are intended to help you be able to better self-regulate, work effectively with your own trauma, and access the benefits of in an irregular mindfulness practice.

The types of areas we will be covering:

  • Mindful embodiment practices to create safety and self-trust
  • Resourcing and resilience practices that support self-regulation
  • Breathwork as a tool to soothe the sympathetic (stress response) system.
  • Self-compassion practices to heal trauma-related shame
  • Advanced modifications to delve a little deeper in body scan practices (utilising Breathworks practices)

These skills can increase your ability to self-regulate and ultimately support your trauma recovery.

Who is this course for?

Rather than introducing restrictions into your life, we’ll instead challenge the way you interact with your thoughts and emotions through Mindfulness and Breathwork to create awareness of the emotions behind those decisions, and get a deeper understanding of self compassion and self worth. Mindfulness, Movement  & Breathwork Therapy

After participating in this program you will:

  1. Increase awareness of your emotional cues
  2. Learn ways to help nourish your emotional needs
  3. Practice self-love and compassion
  4. Begin or strengthen a meditation practice

Our program is PACKED with the best science-backed strategies and tools for building a healthier relationship with your body and mind, one week at a time. 

  • In week 1, we get together as a group and discuss the oultine of the program, introduce ourselves and get started with firstly the development of mindfulness and breathwork facts to start bring the course to life.

  • In week 2 we will explore the window of tolerance, a model founded in neuroscience which helps develop good practice for improving and maintaining mental health and wellbeing.
  • In week 3,  Dan will take you on a journey further into mindfulness & meditation. Mindfulness will help you to get in tune with your body’s cues, exploring how mindfulness can often be a double-edged sword:

    • Understanding why meditation can create dysregulation for people who’ve experienced trauma and specific ways you can prevent this.
    • Identifying symptoms of traumatic stress and tailor mindfulness practices in a trauma-sensitive way.
  • In week 4, Dan will be exploring embodiment and . You’ll nurture a more compassionate approach to YOU, and begin to look at our negative thinking patterns.

    • Identifying symptoms of traumatic stress and tailor mindfulness movement practices in a trauma-sensitive way.
    • This week we will be exploring Mindfulness in Movement

     

  • In week 5 we will be continuing the work in mindful movement. Getting a little closer into the ever changing landscape of our bodies and recognising the healing effects of learning how to hold our attention in our body

 

  • In week 6 we turn our attention at understanding how to turn towards our values and away from our unhelpful habits. We will also explore thought traps and how we can begin to soften their attraction.
    • This week we will also re-expore the body scan, with a hint of compassion
    • Identifying symptoms of traumatic stress and tailor mindfulness practices in a trauma-sensitive way.

 

  • In week 7, this week is all about self-compassion, in a trauma sensitive way. We explore how self compassion can often stimulate more negativity and how to change that script.

 

  • In week 8 we explore the exhaustion funnel and return back to mindful movement. Through the exhaustion funnel we begin to understand how small changes to our world can make a significant impact to our wellbeing if not checked and managed appropriately.

 

  • In week 9 we will be exploring how we can build that trust back again with ourselves and how we can integrate this better in our world. With letting in the good practices along with some group compassion practices designed by trauma sensitive teachers like Pema Chodron and Vidyamala Burch

 

  • Week 10 – We recap on the course and discus how to take what we have learnt forward.
